The Longhorn, a brand new race being held at Thoresby Hall in north Nottinghamshire on Sunday 19 April, has chosen our Saving Lives Helipad Appeal as its 2015 charity partner. The Longhorn offers a choice of 10k, half marathon or full marathon courses, all running over old military roads, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate.
Jason Randall from event organisers SBR Events comments: ‘We’re delighted to be supporting the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal, which is raising funds to build an onsite helipad at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC). The Longhorn is set to be the hottest new date on Nottingham’s sporting calendar and we’re hoping to welcome hundreds of runners to the beautiful Thoresby Hall estate to enjoy the lakeside views, forest terrain and scenic countryside.’
10 free places on offer
Thanks to the partnership with The Longhorn, we have 10 free places on offer for running enthusiasts who’d like to take part. In return for their free place, each runner will be asked to raise at least £100 for the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal. Volunteers are also needed to act as race marshals and man the charity’s stand, so even if you’re not a runner, you can still lend your support on the day.
‘We’re delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner for the very first Longhorn event.’ says Daniel Craggs, our Senior Community Fundraiser. ‘I’m expecting it to be a fantastic, fun-filled day that will help us raise vital funds for the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal. When it’s been built, the new helipad at QMC will greatly reduce transfer times for air ambulance patients – benefiting patients with life-threatening injuries who are being taken to QMC from across the East Midlands.’
We’re expecting the 10 free places to be snapped up very quickly, so please contact Daniel straightaway if you’d like to book a place or help out on the charity’s stand. You can email email@example.com or call Daniel on 0115 924 9924 extension 70246. To volunteer as a race marshal, please visit www.sbrevents.co.uk/events.
More about The Longhorn
The Longhorn 10k, half and full marathon courses will all take runners deep into Nottinghamshire’s National Nature Reserve, through private areas that were once part of the 10,000 acre Royal Forest of Sherwood. The reserve is also the site of Europe’s oldest oak tree woodland, where the famous Longhorn Cattle of Thoresby Estate now roam freely – although they’ll be tucked away whilst the event takes place.
The event is suited to runners of all ages and abilities, with prizes on offer for the fastest male, female and veteran (aged 35 plus). Everyone who takes part will receive a bespoke race finisher’s medal, and a sports therapist will be on hand for that essential post-race massage.
‘We’ve paid attention to every detail when organising The Longhorn,’ says Jason. ‘From onsite parking and full medical provision to a well-equipped race village with food and drink for sale, you’ll find it all here. So don’t miss out on your chance to run around Nottingham’s newest and most beautiful course – sign up today!’
Support the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal
Even if you can’t get hold of one of our 10 free places, you can still take part in The Longhorn (see below) and support the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal by asking friends and family to sponsor you. We’ll be pleased to provide you with sponsorship forms, charity-branded running vests or t-shirts and lots of fundraising ideas.
